You can solve minor TV issues without spending too much! We’re Teko.ph, the largest aircon, appliance, and computer services provider in the Philippines, with some troubleshooting tips for your flat screen TV.

1. TV won’t turn on? Check the plugs and remote control.

Sometimes, it’s the simple things that can cause your flat screen TV to act up. So, start with the basics: Make sure that it is properly plugged into a working power outlet first.

If the LED indicator light remains red when you turn it on using the remote control, try changing the remote control’s batteries. You may also try doing a power reset if it still does not turn on. Unplug the flat screen TV first, and then wait for at least two minutes to plug it back in.

2. Blurry or no display? Check your cables.

If you’re using HDMI or AV cables, check if they’re securely connected to the TV and the external devices. Closely inspect if there are loose ports in your cable box or game console.

You may also try checking the TV’s display settings. You might have just adjusted the brightness or sharpness to its lowest levels. For more tips, check out our blog on How to Adjust Your Flat Screen TV Settings for Better Quality.

3. Can’t hear anything? Adjust the sound settings.

Sometimes, your flat screen TV’s default settings are not ideal for your viewing experience. Try adjusting it to your preference. If there really is no sound, press the “mute” button to unmute the audio.

If you’re using a soundbar or external speakers, make sure they’re turned on. Also, check if their cables are properly connected to the TV.

4. Check the input source.

When troubleshooting TV issues, it’s important to know its cause first. If you’ve tried the steps above and noticed that the problem is with your HDMI input, try using another input source or cable. If you’re not familiar with input sources, these are the rectangular ports behind your flat screen TV.

Also, don’t forget to check the TV’s input settings from the menu. Try resetting them, as this can sometimes resolve issues. Using the remote control, switch to other input sources to test which one works with your connected device.

5. Overheating? Clean your flat screen TV.

Dust buildup on the TV’s vents and cooling fans can cause overheating. Dust, dirt, and fingerprints may also cause the display to appear dimmer.

Use a soft microfiber cloth to wipe your TV screen gently. Clean its frame and back panels also! For stubborn stains, lightly dampen the cloth, and then let it dry before using. For more tips, check out our blog on How to Safely Clean A Flat Screen TV.
