Are you thinking of buying a new aircon for your room? First things first, know your room size so you can buy the right aircon unit! We’re Teko.ph, the largest aircon, appliance, and computer services provider in the Philippines, with some tips to determine your room size for aircon.
Why should I measure my room size for aircon?
When shopping for an aircon, you can’t just choose a known brand or the most affordable unit. You need to choose an appropriate size to cool your room efficiently. An undersized aircon will struggle to cool your room, while an oversized one will often cycle on and off frequently.
With the right size, you can have better air quality and lower noise levels because it won’t cycle frequently. That means better energy consumption, so you won’t have sky-high electric bills!
How to Measure Your Room Size
The first step in knowing the right aircon for your room is by knowing your room size. You can’t just estimate since it will cost you more to use an underperforming or overperforming aircon. To measure your room dimensions, follow these steps:
- Prepare your tape measure, a pen, and paper.
- Start at one corner of the room as your reference point.
- Measure the length from the wall’s corner to the other. Record this measurement.
- Next, measure the width from one wall to the opposite side. If you’re confused, you’ll have to measure how wide the room is from front to back.
To know your room size in square meters, multiply the measurements first. If your room measures 15 feet in length and 20 feet in width, it is 300 square feet. And then, divide it by the conversion factor of 10.764. Your room is approximately 27.87 meters in size.
As a rule of thumb, you’ll need a 0.5 HP aircon for a 6-11 square meter room. For 18-22 square meter rooms, a 1 HP aircon will do. You may check our blog, “Ask Teko: Is a 0.5 HP Aircon Enough?” to know the right unit size based on your room size.
Knowing the Right Room Size for Aircon Matters!
Nowadays, it’s easy to shop for an aircon since they’re available online. However, you should make a wise decision to make the most out of your hard-earned money.
Aside from choosing among The Best Aircon Brands in the Philippines, you should also consider other factors when buying an aircon, like the number of occupants in the room, the Energy Efficiency Rating (EER,) or features you need.
For unusually shaped rooms, you can hire a certified aircon technician from Teko PH to help you with the measurements. They can also do a Site Survey service to properly evaluate your room so you can know the right aircon type and size.
